LEGO Fawlty Towers: the video game is a video game based upon one of Britain's most popular and iconic television shows, Fawlty Towers, written by and starring John Cleese and Connie Booth, and also starring Prunella Scales, Andrew Sachs and Ballard Berkeley. It features twelve levels, which must be played in order. The first is unlocked after the Introduction is completed. The game features some significant differences to other LEGO games, as detailed below.

_

Unique Aspects

LEGO Fawlty Towers: the video game adopts a significantly different approach to most other LEGO games, as the majority of each level takes place in the hotel. For this reason, throughout each level, every part of the hotel is available, other than those areas (usually the area outside the kitchen, the roof, and the drawing room) which are only accessible with certain abilities. For example: an entire level might take place on the ground floor of the hotel, but at any time, the player can go upstairs to find extras in the other rooms, some of which may be open and some of which may require a certain ability to enter. Ghost studs, left by the hotel cat, lead the way back to the actual task. The game also introduces new abilities, and only the five main characters are unlocked; all others become purchasable when a character token is found, in a level or around the HUB. Levels also contain keys (explained below) and five Moose's Heads, which build minikits.

_

The HUB: Fawlty Towers

The HUB of the game, as with the levels, consists of the whole hotel, with the centre being the main reception. Levels can be selected and played from the newspapers on the table in the middle of the reception; characters can be purchased from the bar and the dining room; extras can be purchased from the safe in the dining room; cutscenes can be viewed in the drawing room; and custom characters can be created in the kitchen. Initially, only these rooms, and the upstairs landing, are available.

Somewhere in each level, a key is hidden, which unlock another location; the car park, the space outside the kitchen (including the tool shed), the conservatory, the roof, Basil and Sybil's bedroom, Manuel's bedroom, the Major's bedroom, and five guest bedrooms. Another ten keys, for further guest bedrooms, can be purchased from the reception, for £100,000 each. In each of these locations, at least one character token can be found.

When minikits are built, they appear around the hotel, sometimes in a location where they can be accessed instantly, and sometimes in a room where a key is needed to gain entrance. Interacting with these minikits (e.g. the antique coin collection) also unlocks character tokens.

Introduction

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Sybil Fawlty, Polly Sherman, Manuel, Major Gowen

Overview: Because the game introduces brand new abilities, there is an introduction before the first level, taking place in the HUB. The characters must work together to find the pieces needed to build the newspaper table, where levels are played. Basil Fawlty must use his Super Sarcasm; Sybil Fawlty must use her Telephone Ability; Polly must use her Sanity and her Strong abilities; Manuel must use Clumsiness; and the Major must use his Eccentricity. Once the table is built, the introduction is over, and levels can be played.

A Touch of Class

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Sybil Fawlty, Manuel, Polly Sherman, Danny Brown

Overview: While desperately trying to attract a higher class of guests, Basil gets distracted, much to his wife's frustration. Sybil and he must find the bill for Mr Mackenzie, prepare the menus for lunch, and find the painting which Sybil wants to hang. Before Basil has hung it, however, Danny Brown arrives, to whom Basil takes an instant dislike. Lord Melbury later arrives, much to Basil's delight; he and Manuel have to work together to move the Wareing family away from the window seat, so that Melbury will have a nice place to eat. Basil accidentally knocks Melbury over, but is later forgiven, and Melbury asks him to cash a cheque. Polly is sent to do this. In town, she meets Danny Brown, actually a policeman, and they work together to follow Melbury, who, it is explained, is a confidence trickster. At the hotel, Basil, in the middle of serving the Wareings' drinks, is informed of the deception, and works with Polly and Manuel to fight Lord Melbury. Each time he is attacked, he flees, and Basil becomes uncontrollable with rage; both times, Polly and Manuel must find a way to revive him. Melbury is arrested, but Basil has, in his rage, accidentally scared away genuinely higher class guests, Sir Richard and Lady Morris. Mr Wareing, impatient for his drink, loses his temper; Basil and Manuel must destroy Sybil's painting and find the drinks, throwing them at Mr Wareing and his family.

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Polly Sherman, Manuel, Builder Kerr, Major Gowen, Mr O'Reilly

Overview: As Basil and Sybil head out for a golfing weekend, Basil leaves Polly in charge of overseeing work being done, sealing the door to the drawing room, and putting in a door from the reception to the kitchen. He also informs her that the men will be from O'Reilly's, not Stubbs', as his wife believes. When O'Reilly rings, Basil and Polly must create distractions to stop Sybil from answering the phone. Basil and Sybil then leave, but Polly, tired, puts Manuel in charge, and goes to sleep. After the delivery of a garden gnome, the builders arrive. The short-tempered Lurphy grows angry with Manuel's incompetence, and Manuel and Kerr, the more patient builder, must find a way to calm him down. When Basil returns, he find that a door has been put at the bottom of the stairs, and the dining room has been sealed off; O'Reilly has messed up. Along with the Major, he must build a cannon to fire Manuel into the sealed dining room door. When he cannot break through, he calls O'Reilley. Sybil returns early, and decides to call Stubbs, then leaves. O'Reilly and Basil opt to fix their mistake before Sybil and Stubbs arrive. They must work together to carry out the repairs. However, when Stubbs and Sybil arrive, they find that the repairs have made matters worse, and the whole wall could fall down. While Sybil loses her patience, Basil heads off to "insert a large garden gnome" into Mr O'Reilly.

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Mr Hutchinson, Manuel, Sybil Fawlty, Polly Sherman, Mr Walt

Overview: When a pompous guest, Mr Hutchinson, asks for directions, Basil - with much sarcasm and irritation - must work with the man to find a box of pens, so that he can draw a map. Meanwhile, a frustrated Mr Walt waits for service. After Basil is done, Sybil informs him that hotel inspectors are in town, and a comment that Hutchinson makes leads Basil to believe it is him. When Hutchinson returns, Basil must work with him to find a way of fixing the hotel television, the table tennis table, and the telephone. Later, at lunch, Mr Walt asks for wine, and Basil and Manuel must find the three bottles. Then, Mr Hutchinson receives the wrong meal, and Basil, Polly and Sybil must work together to find the ingredients for the correct order in the kitchen. Sybil then informs Basil that, having overheard his telephone conversation, she knows Hutchinson is not the inspector. Basil then thinks it is Mr Walt, but, in his anger with Hutchinson, knocks him unconscious. Later, Basil is talking to Mr Walt, when Hutchinson attacks, and the two men must fight him. Basil explains to Walt that it is a joke the two of them play, but learns that Mr Walt is not the inspector either. As Mr Hutchinson leaves later that day, Basil and Manuel ambush him, and must build a catapult to launch cream pies at him. Gourmet Night

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Manuel, Mr Heath, Polly, Andre

Overview: In the car park, Basil is trying to fix his vehicle. Manuel arrives, and the two must find the parts to try and repair it. Before Basil finishes, Manuel takes him inside, where Sybil has learnt that the hotel's gourmet night will only have four guests. At dinner, Basil and Sybil meet with Andre, a friend who found them a new chef Kurt. Basil also speaks to the Heath family, and when the son loses his temper, Mr Heath and Basil must find the chips, bread and salad cream to calm him. At the gourmet night, while Basil welcomes Colonel and Mrs Hall and the Twitchens, Kurt drinks to excess and tries to kiss Manuel. Polly and Manuel fight Kurt, but he falls unconscious. Basil decides to contact Andre and ask him to prepare the meal, but this means the entire meal is changed, with Basil claiming that it is all "off". At Andre's restaurant, Basil and Andre must find the duck and the two sauces. When back at the restaurant, however, Manuel drops and steps on the duck, so Basil and Manuel return to Andre's, with Basil picking up the wrong dish. On the way back to the hotel, the car stops working, so Basil and Manuel must give it a "damn good thrashing" by toppling the nearest tree onto it, and then return to the hotel. When Basil finally serves the meal, it is actually a cake. The duck, apparently, is "off".

The Germans

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Doctor Finn, Sister, Manuel, Polly, Basil (Concussion), Major Gowen

Overview: Sybil is in hospital, but is still barking out orders. Basil, Doctor Finn and the Sister must work together to find the items she wants, then Basil leaves. At the hotel, he is expected to hang a moose head, and works with Manuel to move the item from the office to the front desk, by finding bricks to slide it along. While Manuel is behind the moose head, he practises his English, leading the Major to think he is having a conversation with the moose head. After it is up, Basil and Polly prepare for a fire drill, but lose the key, so must work to find three keys which might work. Sybil then rings and reveals it is in the safe, but Basil starts the burglar alarm, and argues with the guests who think it was the fire alarm. Meanwhile, Manuel starts a fire in the kitchen. Basil and Polly must work together to save Manuel, and then find a fire extinguisher, which explodes in Basil's face. Waking up in hospital, Basil sneaks back to the hotel against Doctor Finn's orders, and encounters the German guests. Due to his concussion, he does not listen as he discusses the war with them. Doctor Finn arrives, and must work with Polly and Manuel to fight an angry Basil. Basil hits Manuel to cause a distraction, but the moose falls on Manuel's head. Confused and scared, Basil and the Major must fight them, and everyone ends up in a heap on the floor, much to the bemusement of the Germans.

Communication Problems

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Manuel, Polly Sherman, Major Gowen

Overview: The aggressive, deaf and short-sighted Mrs Richards arrives, arguing with Polly that she should be served before Mr Thurston (who was already at the reception). Meanwhile, Basil receives a horse racing tip from Mr Firkin, which Sybil will not allow him to pursue. Manuel and Basil are called to Mrs Richards' room, where they must build her bath, open her blinds, and find and start the radio, none of which is enough to satisfy her. Basil then asks Manuel to go to the betting shop for him. His horse wins him £75, but Manuel gives the money to Polly. Sybil sees her with the money and grows suspicious, so Basil asks the Major to keep hold of it overnight. Mrs Richards declares she has no lavatory paper, but Polly and Manuel misunderstand and must find three packs of writing paper. Outraged, Mrs Richards returns to her room, and declares that £85 has been stolen from it. Sybil questions Polly, who lies and says she won the money seen before on the horse. Basil tries to collect his money from the Major, who forgets where it is, so the two of them must go to his room and find it. But the Major shouts that he found it, leading Mrs Richards to believe it is hers. Basil is forced to give it to her, along with an additional £10, but a delivery man arrives and reveals that Mrs Richards left her money - actually £95 - in a vase that she bought. However, just as Sybil arrives to see Basil with his money, and holding Mrs Richards' vase, the Major remembers where the money really came from. Sybil takes it from him, and he drops the vase. He and the Major must fight Mrs Richards and repair the vase, but it smashes each time she loses a life. In the end, Basil is forced to pay Mrs Richards the price of the vase - £75.

The Psychiatrist

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Raylene Miles, Manuel

Overview: Basil is disgruntled when Mr Johnson, an arrogant open-shirted young man, arrives at the hotel and charms Sybil, asking about a room for his mother who is arriving the next day. Meanwhile, Dr. and Dr. Abbot arrive, over whom Basil fawns endlessly. The attractive Raylene Miles arrives, and Basil escorts her to her room and must help her fix her bathroom light. However, while reaching for the light switch, Basil touches her inappropriately, just as Sybil arrives. At dinner, Basil learns that (Mr) Dr. Abbot is a psychiatrist, and panics. He also believes (correctly) that Johnson has smuggled a girl into his room. He is seen by the Abbots listening at the door, and then he and Manuel must go outside, and find and build a ladder. Basil looks through the wrong window, at the Abbots, and then the ladder breaks. Manuel fetches Sybil, who grows angry, thinking Basil was trying to spy on Raylene, so she locks Basil out of their bedroom that night. Basil and Manuel hide in a cupboard so as to catch the girl, leaping out and fighting her - but they realise that it is actually Raylene. Sybil arrives and only sees Basil's handprints on her shirt. Basil grows angry, and forces everybody to watch as he and Manuel burst into Mr Johnson's room. They must fight Mr Johnson, and then Basil demands to see the woman. Mr Johnson obliges, allowing Basil to meet his aged mother. (Mr) Dr Abbot views Basil's subsequent meltdown, but decides that, as he is on holiday, it is best to ignore it.

Waldorf Salad

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Chef Terry, Sybil Fawlty, Major Gowen, Miss Abitha Tibbs, Miss Ursula Gatsby

Overview: At dinner, Mr and Mrs Johnston's prawns are off, Mr and Mrs Arrad have been waiting half an hour, Miss Hare and Miss Gurke have poor quality meat, and Mr Libson is being bored by Sybil. Basil, meanwhile, goes to reception, where Mrs Hamilton is checking in. He is bribed by the American Mr Hamilton to keep the kitchen open slightly longer. Basil goes to the kitchen and bribes Terry, and the two must clean the room. Terry eventually agrees to stay, but Polly reveals he was going on a date (not a karate lesson, as he had claimed). Basil sends him away, and pretends that there is still a chef to the Hamiltons, who order a Waldorf Salad and a Screwdriver, neither of which does Basil understand. Sybil finds out, and must help Basil to find the ingredients for the salad - celery, apples, walnuts, grapes, and a mayonnaise sauce - but Mr Hamilton discovers that there is no chef. Angry, he threatens to leave. The guests gather, with the Major defending the hotel; and Basil and he must work to find Miss Tibbs, Miss Gatsby, Mr Arrad, Miss Hare, and Miss Gurke, who do not complain. However, Mr Johnston does then criticise the hotel, prompting other guests to do so; Basil, the Major and the Ladies must find a way to scare the crowds away, and fight an angry Mr and Mrs Hamilton (whenever he loses a life, she attacks, but is easier to defeat). Sybil arrives and forces Basil to leave the hotel; he does, but returns moments later, seeking a room, a Waldorf Salad and lashings of hot Screwdriver.

The Kipper and the Corpse

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Polly Sherman, Manuel, Doctor Price

Overview: Trying to ignore Mrs Chase and her savage dog Prince, Basil is fawning over Doctor Price, a man yearning for sausages, when the unwell Mr Leeman arrives. The next morning, Basil thinks that the kippers are out of date, but is told to serve them to Leeman in bed regardless. When Polly takes the milk up, she finds him dead. Basil, terrified, must work with Polly to find hiding places for the three kippers; but Doctor Price reveals that Leeman died during his sleep, and says the body should be moved. Basil, Polly and Manuel must work to move the body out of its room, but Miss Tibbs sees it and grows hysterical. They must fight her, ultimately knocking her unconscious. Both bodies must then be moved into the wardrobe of the nearest bedroom, to avoid Mr and Mrs White from seeing them. After they have gone, Miss Tibbs regains consciousness, so Basil and Manuel return to moving the body. They put it into the office, but Tibbs finds it and faints again, so they move him to the kitchen, where an impatient Doctor Price has resolved to cook his own sausages. He demands it cannot stay, so must all work together to build the linen basket, put Leeman inside, and move it into the hall. Leeman's colleagues (Xerzes, Young and Zebedee) arrive, but Basil thinks they are undertakers. He opens the linen basket, which is empty - the other has already been collected. Basil and Polly must find a way to stop the truck from driving away, and move the linen basket with the body back to the hotel. The confusion is explained, but all the guests arrive. In the middle of the confusion, Basil leaves the body in a nearby chair, and climbs into the linen basket himself, as the laundry men take it away.

The Anniversary

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Polly Sherman, Alice, Roger, Arthur

Overview: On the morning of his wedding anniversary, Basil pretends he has forgotten. He has arranged a surprise party and asked Manuel to prepare a paella (angering Terry), but at the last moment, a furious Sybil leaves. When Alice and Roger arrive, Polly says that Sybil is ill and cannot come downstairs. When Virginia and Arthur arrive, Virginia reminds Basil that she is a nurse, so Basil and Polly must find a way to seal the stairway before she can go up. Then, Reg and Kitty arrive, believing they saw Sybil in town. Basil pretends it was a woman known to look like Sybil. Roger is still skeptical, so Basil uses reverse psychology, which backfires when Roger decides they should go up. Polly eventually agrees to dress up as Sybil, so Basil and she must go upstairs, and find a wig, sunglasses, and a nightdress. They must also close the curtains and destroy the lamps. Basil and his friends make their way upstairs, and as they go to see "Sybil", Basil leaves them. Kitty and Reg both trip over in the darkness, and Polly bites Virginia when she tries to examine her. The others must locate the three injured people in the darkness, and help them out of the room. They come downstairs as Sybil returns to the hotel. Basil takes her and locks her in the kitchen, where Manuel and Terry are fighting; he tells his friends that it was, in fact, Sybil's lookalike, interested in buying a fridge. Once the guests have left, Basil claims to Polly that the easy part is over; now, when he releases Sybil, will be the difficult bit.

Basil the Rat

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Miss Abitha Tibbs, Miss Ursula Gatsby, Manuel (Basil the Rat), Polly Sherman, Major (Rifle), Sybil Fawlty, Chef Terry, Manuel

Overview: Basil arrives at the hotel to find the health inspector, Mr Carnegie, waiting with a lengthy list of problems - having only seen the kitchen. Basil has 24 hours to put things right, or the hotel will close. He goes to Manuel's room, only to find that Manuel has a pet "pedigree Siberian hamster", aka a rat. Assisted by Miss Tibbs and Miss Gatsby, Basil must fight Manuel and move the rat downstairs, where Polly says a friend of hers will look after it. Manuel and Polly head out, but must actually go to the tool shed, and find a way to open it. The rat is kept there instead, but Manuel leaves the cage open and the rat goes back indoors. The next day, the Major sees it in the bar, and collects his gun, just as Mr Carnegie returns. Basil stops the Major and learns of the rat. The two of them must open the window and release three starlings, which Basil claims the Major was shooting at. He then goes to the dining room, where Terry, Polly and Manuel are looking for the rat, itself named Basil. Basil leaves a veal covered in rat poison on the floor, but it gets put with other veal, which the hotel's cat tries to eat. When the veal is ordered by Mr Carnegie, Basil, Sybil and Terry must find the cat, to find out if the piece it ate is alright. They manage to serve Carnegie unpoisoned meat, but then see the rat in a guest's handbag. The guests try to leave, so Basil and Manuel must fight the man, Ronald, and try to steal Quentina's bag. Polly says there was a bomb scare, and they are allowed to look inside. Basil gets the rat, and hides it in the biscuit box, just as Mr Carnegie orders cheese and biscuits. They are served to him, and the rat peers out at him, until Basil casually has it removed. While Sybil continues to make casual conversation with a bewildered Mr Carnegie, Manuel and Polly must build a bed, onto which Basil promptly faints.

Bonus Level

Playable characters: Basil Fawlty, Manuel (Basil the Rat), Polly Sherman, Sybil Fawlty, Major Gowen

Overview: The five main characters (Manuel in his variation where Basil the rat can be played) have 10 minutes to collect £1,000,000 from around the hotel. This can be achieved by smashing items, by building iconic items (such as the Moose Head), or by fighting bosses (scattered throughout guest rooms). Once the player reaches 900,000, they are automatically transported to the main lobby, where Donald Sinclair (upon whom the character of Basil was based) appears, and must be fought to end the level. When the level is complete, iconic scenes from the series (such as the "Your Horse Nitwit" conversation, the end of "The Hotel Inspectors", and the end of "Gourmet Night") are added to the cutscenes selection, recreated shot-by-shot in LEGO. The Fawlty Towers sign is also immediately unlocked as a minikit.
