Background

The Heroes of Olympus is a series of books written by Rick Riordan. It is a so-called "follow-up" story to Percy Jackson and the Olympians, as it is placed in the demigodly worlds with characters from Percy Jackson as well as new characters.

The first book, "The Lost Hero", was released in autumn 2011. It follows three new demigods, Jason (son of Zeus), Piper (daughter of Aphrodite), and Leo (son of Hephaestus) on their adventures.

The book begins with Jason waking up on a school bus in Nevada with no memories. He is told he is friends with Leo and Piper. The coach, a short, stocksthis quey satyr-in-disguise named Coach Hedge, discovers Jasons secret that he has no memories and mentions an "extraction squad" from a camp before they are inturrupted by a group of venti, evil storm spirits, that capture Coach Hedge. Jason, realizing his powers as son of the lightning god, fends off the three storm spirits. Just then the extraction team comes in, led by Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena, and Butch, son of Iris the rainbow goddess. They escort the three demigods to camp half-blood where they are claimed by their godly parents.

During a campfire sing a long session, the Oracle, in the body of Rachel Elizabeth Dare, spews a prophecy. The prophecy is;

Child of lightning, beware the earth

The giant's revenge the seven shall birth

The forge and dove shall break the cage

And death unleash through Hera's rage.

Jason is given the quest, and he chooses to bring Leo and Piper because they are friends and the forge and dove are symbols of Hephaestus and Aphrodite respectively. They set out to find Boreas the north wind on a magic bronze dragon Leo found in the forests with the fire powers he had been developing in secret and named Festus (or "Happy" in Latin). The find Boreas' palace, guarded by his children Zethes and Calais, and Khione the snow goddess, and convice Boreas to let them live.
