LEGO The Simpsons: the video game is based off the popular cartoon series. It has four original storylines, with five chapters in each, which will always include one vehicle level. The four stories must be played in order, and after each level, all the played characters and the main villains are unlocked. The game also allows the player to explore all of Springfield, and not only characters but various different vehicles can be purchased as well. In vehicle stories, there are specific vehicles that a player is given to use, but (like in Indiana Jones 2) other vehicles can be commandeered and driven. To progress each story there are several cutscenes, with the voice actors returning to play their characters.

Springfield: The HUB

The HUB of the game is Springfield. Similar to LEGO Batman 2 or LEGO Lord of the Rings, the whole town can be explored, and all of the Extras appear as red bricks around the town. After five Soul Donuts have been found in each level, a minikit is built and can be viewed in the Simpson's garage. Cutscenes can be viewed in the Simpsons living room, or the Googleplex cinema. In order to purchase characters or vehicles, they must be found around town. For some characters or vehicles, however, they become instantly available (for free) after the player completes mini-games for various characters around Springfield. (These can only be completed as a member of the Simpsons family).

Bart and Lisa must sneak through the Fox studio to try and find the Creator. Then, Homer and Marge follow them, and must protect Maggie from the attacking Benders. When they arrive at the Creator's Office, Marge, Lisa and Maggie must sneak through the ventilation system and drop down into the office, fighting Matt Groening. When he flees, they open the door, and Homer and Bart chase after Matt Groening, only to find Doctor Zoidberg. They fight Benders and then Zoidberg, before revealing that Matt Groening has been controlling their world as well. Bender and Zoidberg agree to help, and the four must work together to make a large comic book. Bender and Zoidberg then fight Matt Groening, and throw him into the comic book, trapping him inside. The Simpsons return to their own universe, and Bart is seen selling the comic book to the Android's Dungeon, where Comic Book Guy declares it "The Worst Comic Book EVER!" and shreds it.
